NAMA for Energy Efficiency in the Building Sector

Georgia is a new addition to phase two of the Mitigation Momentum project. The development of NAMAs is a key component of Georgia's national climate change mitigation and development strategy, and is framed within the country's ongoing Low Emissions Development Strategy process.

An initial workshop was held in Tbilisi on May 22nd 2014 in order to discuss the priority action areas of the country and potential areas for NAMA development. Representatives from the Ministires of Environment, Energy, Economy, and Regional Development participated in the workshop, along with several important stakeholders from civil society organisations.

A NAMA concept and proposal will be developed in the area of Energy Efficiency of Buildings, which is a key thematic area with high potential in Georgia for both climate change mitigation and local sustainable development.

A more detailed NAMA concept will be developed in the coming months in consultation with local ministries and stakeholders. Further details are expected to be available in August 2014.
